FOUSE William D. Fouse died at his home, in Altoona, Thursday afternoon of last week at 4:30 o'clock after having been ill since November 1915, when he suffered a stroke of apoplexy. He was born at Beavertown, December 23, 1845, and was the son of Dewalt and Margaret Fouse. Reared on his father's farm, he remained at the old homestead until his 17th year when he enlisted with the Union army during the Civil war. He was a sergeant in Co. D, Twenty-second regiment of Pennsylvania volunteers, serving under Captain W. S. Ness. Some two years and three months were spent with the company, he participating in the battles of the Wilderness and Antietam. After the war he returned to Altoona, later going to Illinois. There he spent three years farming. Later he returned and followed his vocation on his father's farm at Beavertown. In 1902 he removed to Altoona, entering the employ of Fay, Hutchison & Co. He remained in their service for thirteen years. He wedded Linda E. Knode on January 10, 1878, to which union there were born two daughters, Mrs. John E. Weber, of Huntingdon, and Anna Grace, at home, who survive with the mother. He is also survived by one brother, Daniel B., of Beavertown, and the following half brothers: Mahlon Fouse, of Entriken; Dewalt, of Grafton; Calvin, of Mt. Union, and two half sisters, Mrs. Norman Sorrick, of California, and Mrs. William Erb, of Clover Creek. Funeral services were held from the late home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, interment following in Rose Hill cemetery. Martinsburg Herald, December 1, 1916
