FREET Mrs. Barbara Werking Freet, widow of George L. Freet, a former well known Pennsylvania Railroad company shop foreman, and one of the best known and esteemed women of the Eighth ward, died at her home, 513 Sixth avenue, at 4.50 o'clock yesterday afternoon of a complication of diseases. She had been in poor health for the past five years. She bore her sufferings with that Christian fortitude that had characterized her entire life and which endeared her to those who shared her acquaintance. Deceased was the daughter of Jacob and Margaret Wertner [sic] and was born in Bedford county on July 15, 1840. She was married to George L. Freet at Waynesboro on June 18, 1865, came to this city as a bride and had resided in the Eighth ward for a period of forty-five years. She had the honor of hearing President Lincoln make his famous Gettysburg address when a girl and prized it as one of the most important events in her history. She was a member of Trinity Reformed church, being one of the charter members of the congregation. She was an untiring worker for the church and took a great interest in all its activities until ill-health compelled her to relinquish her work. Her husband preceded her to the grave eleven years ago and she is survived by four daughters, Mrs. May, wife of Sheriff William H. Orr, of this city; Mrs. Ida, wife of William M. Duncan, of Staton Island, N.Y.; Miss Jessie and Mrs. Ella, wife of Prof. H. C. Smith, of 513 Sixth avenue. She is also survived by one sister, Miss Amanda Werking, of Martinsburg and four grandchildren. The funeral will take place Friday afternoon, services at Trinity Reformed church at 2:30 o'clock.
