At his home in East End at 11.45 o'clock Saturday morning John H. Fresh, a much respected citizen, died from the effects of heart and stomach trouble, from which he had been a sufferer for the past six months. On March 2, 1831, he was born in Alexandria, Huntingdon county, but for forty-three years past had been a resident of this city. On May 18, 1856, he was married in Philadelphia, in St. John's Roman Catholic church, to Katharine M. Fleisher. Mr. Fresh was at one time employed on the Portage railroad and later on the Pennsylvania, being in the latter's employ for sixteen years. He served at one time as a member of the Altoona council. He was at the time of death a member of St. John's Literary and Benevolent society. During the civil war he served in the Pennsylvania cavalry under Captain, now Colonel Bell. He is survived by ten children, as follows: George F., Thomas, John, James, Carl, Mary, Agnes, and Katharine, all at home. Funeral services will be held in St. John's Roman Catholic church, of which he was a member, tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock. Interment in St. John's cemetery. Morning Tribune, Monday, October 9, 1899
