Conrad Friday, one of the oldest and most highly esteemed residents of Snyder township died very suddenly at his home near Vail about 5 o'clock Tuesday evening. He had not been previously ill, and after coming into the house from the porch, he sat down on a chair. When his daughter spoke to him, he did not answer, and she saw that he was ill. No human power was then able to save the fast speeding life, however, and with a few short struggles, he expired. Apoplexy was likely the cause of death. Deceased was born near Hesse Castle, Germany, December 25, 1823, having therefore reached the age of 57 years, 5 months and 1 day when the summons came. In 1854, with his family consisting of his wife and four sons, and his brothers Hiram and Henry, he sailed in the ship "Johanna" for America. While passing through the North Sea and his entire family was lost, while his brothers and himself were rescued. Arrived in America, he first settled at Alexandria, afterward at Tyrone, and in 1861 he removed to the locality where he had since resided and engaged in farming. In 1861 he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Messinger who passed away three years ago. Surviving him are two sons and two daughters, who are Andrew, of Bellwood; Christian, Minnie and Mrs. Lucinda Woomer, at home. He is also survived by three brothers, Hiram, John and Henry. Mr. Friday was a devout Christian and a faithful member of the Lutheran church. Funeral services will be conducted at Baughman's school house by Rev. A. J. Bean this (Thursday) morning at ten o'clock. Interment in Baughman's cemetery. Tyrone Herald, Tyrone, Pa., May 28, 1891
