Funk of 1703 Fifth avenue, East Altoona died at her home at 11.05 p.m. Aug. 19, of a complication of diseases. Most of her life has been spent in Blair county, the only exception being a number of years during which she resided in Philadelphia. She was born in Logan Valley, Blair county, Sept. 30, 1856, the daughter of John J. and Lydia Burkholder. She returned to this part of the country from Philadelphia in 1902 and since that time, she has lived at East Altoona, making many friends in that section. She has been a member of the Methodist church since her girlfriend and since moving to East Altoona, she has been a member of Fifteenth Street Methodist church of East Juniata. She was also a member of the Pennsylvania branch of the Shut in Society of Philadelphia. Mrs. Funk has been an invalid since 1908, and has been confined to her bed for the past two years. Despite her long illness and her inability to get about, she had many friends in every locality in which she lived as her friends liked to visit her because of her sunny disposition, and her cheerful outlook at life despite the illness that kept her bedfast. She is survived by her husband and one brother, T. J. Burkholder of Chicago. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. She was the sister-in-law of Mrs. Susan Smith, who on Saturday observed her 91st birthday. Funeral services will be held at the late residence AT 2 P.M. Thursday, in charge of Rev. Knisely, her former pastor. Interment will be made in Asbury cemetery. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., Monday, August 20, 1923, page 20
