Adam Gable, a Well-known Business Man, Drops Dead. One of Altoona's well-known citizens departed this life very suddenly yesterday morning. Adam Gable, a prominent business man dropped dead in his house, of heart disease. Deceased had been feeling unwell for a number of days, and seemed to have some foreboding of his death. For the past few days his pain has been less severe than formerly. Early yesterday morning it however returned, and when he awoke he complained of extreme difficulty in breathing, and a severe pain in his side. Presently he improved a little, and the pain seemed to travel downward. As he complained of being very cold his wife arose and went down stairs to get him a warm bandage. In a minute after she heard something fall, and rushed up stairs only to find her husband lying on the floor, gasping for breath. She did not disturb him, but sent hurriedly for a doctor. When he arrived all was over and the spirit of the husband had flown at the summons to meet its Creator. Deceased was a well known confectioner on Twelfth street, between Seventh and Eighth avenues, and was at the time of his decease in the forty-first year of his age. He was a native of Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, but emigrated to this country when a boy and settled with his parents in Lancaster county. He first came to Altoona about eighteen years since, but enlisted in the army and served his adopted country faithfully until the end of the war. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn his early demise. Deceased was a member of the German Catholic Church, the Frohsinn Singing Society and the Mountain City band. The two latter organizations will turn out in a body to attend the funeral, which will take place at 9 o'clock on Friday morning, to proceed to St. Joseph's cemetery.
