Hayden Thomas Gallagher died suddenly at his home, North Logan avenue and Sixteenth street, yesterday morning at 9.30, from complicated stomach trouble. On Saturday evening he played the violin for a dance, gotten up by the young people at the Northwood platform, and was in good health until 8 o'clock Sunday evening. Deeming it only a slight and temporary ailment no physician was called until too late to assist. He was born at Martinsburg, this county, July 5, 1853, and at death aged 42 years and 3 days. The greater part of his early life was spent at Springfield Mines and from there removed to Duncansville. In 1888 he, with his family, came to Tyrone, where he engaged as a machinist in the Tyrone shops, Pennsylvania railroad, and remained here until two years ago, when he accepted employment with the Morrison-Cass Paper company, where he was engaged a few days prior to being overtaken by death. He is survived by his wife and five children, viz: Mrs. Oscar Simons, of Tyrone, and Emma, Nellie, Bertha and Elizabeth at home, and also his mother Mrs. Katharine Gallagher, of Altoona, and two sisters Mrs. John McCune of Altoona, and Mrs. Jacob Schandelmier, of Boone, Iowa. Mr. Gallagher was a mechanic well versed in his trade and an adept in mechanical appliances; a musician of note and an expert on many instruments; a pupil of the celebrated violinist, William Eller; a man of domestic temperament which is more than proven by the care and love for his family always evidenced; a manly, genial, warm-hearted friend to those with whom he chose to associate, and the writer, with heartfelt feelings to the departed, says peace to his ashes, and extends sympathy to those who have been so suddenly deprived of his care and protection. Funeral services will be held at his late home to-morrow (Wednesday) morning at 10 o'clock to be conducted by Rev. V. T. Rue, of the Second Methodist Episcopal church. Interment in Tyrone cemetery.
