GARBER Suddenly on the afternoon of December 4th, after only a few days' illness, Gertrude E., wife of Edward G. Garber, died at her home in Beavertown. She was in the prime of life, and her unexpected death came as a shock to her numerous relatives and friends. She was born May 12, 1887, the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph K. Detwiler, also of Beavertown. She left behind in her home, her husband and three children, Ella, William and Ruth. Her parents survive, together with the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Fleetwood Brumbaugh of Martinsburg, Miss Katharine, Edward and Harry, at home; Warren, a member of the American expeditionary force in France, and Newton Royer, a half brother. The burial was from her late home on Sunday morning, the 8th, to Salem Reformed church where the funeral services were held. A great concourse of relatives and friends filled the church edifice. The service was in charge of her pastor, Rev. E. R. Deatrick. At its close the body was borne to Salem graveyard, just across the way from the church of which she was a faithful member, in which she was so greatly interested, and laid to rest within the shadow of the church she so loved. It was a fitting close to the simplicity and zeal of the life of one who was striving to live a Christian. Mrs. Garber's immediate family circle has suffered heavily from death since July 7th, when her grandmother, Mrs. William Fouse, died. Besides, there have passed away in that interval a grandaunt, Mrs. Susan Burket, and two cousins, Mervin and John Acker. All are interred at Salem church.
