ELIZABETH GARDNER, A lifelong resident of this city and county, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Netta Berlin, 2230 Park Boulevard, Detroit, Mich., with whom she has been making her home for the past two years, on Tuesday morning June 21, after a brief illness. She is the last and youngest member of the family of Allen and Katherine (Crissman) MacCartney, who lived for many years on a farm in Juniata gap where Mrs. Gardner was born, and consisted of nine children, Dougal, David, Morrison, Crissman and Martin S. MacCartney, Mrs. Keziah McCauley, Mrs. Eliza Maurer, Mrs. Urith Doughtery, all of whom preceded her to the great beyond. Mrs. Gardner was united in marriage to Harry G. Gardner at the age of 17. To this union were born two children, Netta Berlin of Detroit and Charles A. Gardner of Dawson, Pa., the latter having passed away two years ago. She was a member of the First Lutheran church and was also affiliated with and a member of Alfarata Council No. 115. Sons and Daughters of Liberty, Isabella Lodge No. 202, Daughters of Rebekah, Camp No. 152, P. O. of A. Powhattan Council No 50, D. of P. and Olive Sisterhood No. 2, Dames of Malta. She had a host of friends in this city and surrounding country where she is well known and loved, who will deeply mourn her death. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. Her husband died 33 years ago. The remains will be brought to Altoona and the funeral will be held at the First Lutheran church tomorrow afternoon to be followed by interment in Fairview.
