GARDNER, A well-known young printer, died of consumption at the home of John McIntire, in Blair township, at 8:10 o'clock yesterday morning, aged 25 years, ? months and 11 days. The deceased was born in Hollidaysburg and learned his trade in the Register office at that place. He has been unable to work for two or three years past on account of illness. He spent most of this time in Colorado and California, in a vain hope of staying the disease with which he was afflicted. He was a member of Altoona Typographical Union No. 24?, Benjamin L. Hewit council No. 239, Junior Order United American Mechanics, and was at one time a sergeant in company C of the Fifth regiment. He worked on the Mirror and other Altoona papers some years ago and made a large number of friends here. He was genial and companionable, and possessed many worth traits of character. He is survived by four sisters and four brothers, viz: Mrs. John Hunter, Miss Ida and William of Hollidaysburg; Mrs. Wertz, of Hastings; Mrs. Hill, of Pittsburg; Harry, Earl and Clifton, who are inmates of the Soldiers' Orphans Home, at Uniontown. The funeral services will be held in the Methodist church, Hollidaysburg, on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock; interment in the Lutheran cemetery. Altoona Mirror, December 14, 1896
