GARDNER Died at Hollidaysburg Last Night of Heart Disease Dr. Thaddeus S. Gardner died at his home in Hollidaysburg at 11 o'clock last night of heart disease after an illness of six weeks. Dr. Gardner was in his fifty-fourth year. He was graduated as a doctor from the University of Pennsylvania at the beginning of the rebellion and immediately entered the service, in which he remained till the end of the war, being one of the youngest surgeons in the army with the rank of major. He was assistant surgeon in the Sixty-second regiment and afterwards surgeon of the Seventeenth Pennsylvania cavalry, Fifth army corps. On returning home he practiced medicine at Warriorsmark, Huntingdon county, and at Ebensburg for a number of years, after which he retired from the profession and engaged in the iron business in New York city. In 1881 he became treasurer and manager of the Altoona Iron company and conducted the company's business with great success till stricken down by failing health. He resided with his family in Hollidaysburg making daily trips to the iron works at Millville. Dr. Gardner was married to Miss Annie Patton, of Philadelphia, who, with two sons, James P. and Paul D., survive him. He also leaves his aged father, Hon. James Gardner, of Hollidaysburg. His only brother, Edward, died in the seventies. The deceased was a most capable and enterprising business man and was by nature and education a gentleman. His untimely death is a direct loss to the community and a severe blow to his family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock on Saturday afternoon, after which the remains will be interred in the Presbyterian cemetery at Hollidaysburg.
