A Little Boy Chokes to Death at the Supper Table. The residence of Mr. W. L. Garrett, of No. 1605 Sixth avenue, was the scene of a peculiarly sad accident at about half-past 6 o'clock Tuesday evening, and which resulted in the death of an interesting son of Mr. Garrett. At the time of the accident the members of the family were at the supper table, when the little boy, who had been busily engaged in eating, exclaimed to his mother than he was choking. In order to give him relief as quickly as possible his mother gave him a piece of bread, this being a common remedy in such cases. It did no good, however, as the piece of meat lodged in his windpipe, and before any other method of relief could be brought to bear upon him he had choked to death. The name of the child was William A. Garrett, son of W. L. and Elizabeth Garrett, and on the 18th of last September he was 5 years old. Beside his parents he leaves two sisters and one brother. These are Frederick Garrett, residing in San Francisco; Miss Rachel Garrett, residing at home, and Mrs. W. A. McFarland. The bereaved family will have the sympathy of the community in this sad bereavement, coming as it did with such suddenness. There have no arrangements been as yet made for the funeral. Coroner Glenn was notified of the accident and went to the house, but under the circumstances did not deem it necessary to hold an inquest. Altoona Tribune, February 7, 1889
