Two years ago Mr. Garver sustained a slight stroke and was in very poor health for some time, then seemed to gain new strength and was able to walk from his home to the business section of town, a distance of a half mile. He was in his usual health when the fatal stroke came. Mr. Garver was a son of Benjamin and Barbara Garver and was born in Franklin county January 24, 1848. When he was 2 years old his parents moved to Huntingdon county, where he grew to manhood. In December, 1869, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary J. Shearer, of Germany valley, Huntingdon county. They established their new home there and he was engaged in agriculture for twenty-three years. Then they moved from the farm to Roaring Spring, where he had since resided. After coming to Roaring Spring, Mr. Garver accepted a position with the blank book factory, which office he creditably filled until compelled by ill health to resign. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, joining at Shirleysburg twenty-five years ago. There being no church of that denomination in Roaring Spring, he attended regularly the Methodist Episcopal church and was a loyal Christian. He was the father of six children, of whom one son, Benjamin, and his wife preceded him to the eternal kingdom. Those surviving are: Fred, Howard, Mrs. Eliza Smith, Miss Clara, all of Roaring Spring; Mrs. Frank Bobb, of Denver, Colo. Four grandchildren also survive and four brothers: Dr. A. L. Garver, of Roaring Spring; Christopher, of Newton, Ia.; David, of Los Angeles; William, of Blunt, S.D. Funeral service will be held at his late home at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. E. L. Eslinger. Interment in Green Lawn cemetery. (Huntingdon county papers please copy.) Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Friday Morning, December 15, 1916
