GETTEMY Dr. Gettemy, 90 of 449 Laury Lane, New Wilmington, a former general practitioner in Altoona and former president of the Blair County Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association, died Tuesday, Feb 26, 1980, in Jameson Memorial Hospital, New Castle, following a brief illness. Dr. Gettemy retired as dean of Blair County's doctors and from the Altoona Hospital staff in 1974 after 57 year's service. He specialized in internal medicine. He had served as president of the Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association for 26 years, and was a former director of the organization. He was born March 13, 1889, in Donegal, the son of Noah and Mary (Wimer) Gettemy, and July 1, 1918, married Margaret Yarnall. Surviving are his wife, three children, Dean of Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Mary Louise Ireland of New Wilmington RD 3 and Mrs. Margaret Register of Rochester, N.Y.: nine grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Jessie Ambrose of Stahlstown. Dr. Gettemy was a member of the New Wilmington United Presbyterian Church and while in Altoona was a member of the First Unite Presbyterian Church, where he was a member of the choir and was Sunday school superintendent for 25 years. He received a 50 year citation from the Pennsylvania State Sabbath School Association for his service as a Sunday school teacher. Dr. Gettemy attended Indiana University and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1917. He opened his practiced in Altoona in 1919. He was past president of the Blair County Medical Society and past vice president of the Pennsylvania State Heart Association. Dr. Gettemy was a 50-year member of Logan F&AM Lodge and a member of the Jaffa Shrine Temple. He served overseas with the Army medical corps during World War 1. Friends will be received Thursday in the E. Gailey Sharp Funeral Home, New Wilmington. Interment in Fair Oaks Cemetery, New Wilmington. Altoona Mirror, February 27, 1980
