Death of a Former Resident.

  Mr. Frederick Gherdes, a former resident of this city, died at his 
home in Sandusky, Ohio, on July 4, at the age of 70 years.  He is 
survived by the following children: Joseph and Frederick, of Altoona; 
Mrs. Charles Patterson, of Bucyrus, Ohio; Mrs. Mary Myers of Lima, 
Ohio, and Mrs. Lizzie Rose, a stepdaughter, of Philadelphia.  His wife 
preceded him to the grave some thirty years ago.  The funeral took 
place yesterday morning, interment being at Sandusky.  His sons, Joseph 
and Frederick, and grandchildren, Joseph, Lottie and John, of this 
city, attended the funeral.  The deceased was a machinist by 
occupation, and was employed in the shops here until his removal to 
Sandusky about sixteen years ago.
