In holding a pet cat to the blaze in the heater the attire of the little girl caught fire shortly after members of the family had arisen. Her cries aroused the mother, Mrs. Adam C. Gibboney, of 1413 Eighteenth street, who came to the child's rescue. The woman seized a curtain and smothered the flames, but not before the victim received second and third degree burns about the face, shoulders, arms and the lower torso, as far as the knees. The little girl was admitted to the hospital and it was believed until several days ago that she would recover. On Monday the child grew worse rapidly and sank into a comatose state yesterday, dying last evening. The mother was also painfully burned in rescuing her child. Elizabeth Loraine Gibboney was the daughter of Adam C. and Catherine Gibboney, and was born in this city, February 26, 1911. Her parents survive, with these brothers and sisters: George, Olive, John and Mary, all at home. The body was prepared for burial by Funeral Directors Roher & Mauk, of Juniata. Funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock this afternoon from the home of the parents and will be strictly private. Burial will follow in Carson Valley cemetery.
