Giles, of this city, died at 8 o'clock last evening, at his home, 107 Fifteenth street. He had been in poor health but had only been abed for one day. Last evening while talking to his family he was suddenly seized with a hemorrhage of throat and expired before medical aid had arrived. The deceased was born at Mont Alto, Franklin county, and was 69 years old on the 26th of last February. In June forty-three years ago, he was married in the town of his birth to Miss Areshia* Donnelly, who survives him. The first two years of his married life were spent in Mont Alto. He then removed to Orbisonia, Huntingdon county, later to Petersburg, and to Altoona about ten years ago. In early life he was ordained as -----minister of the Methodist Episcopal church, and afterward turned his attention to educational work. He was a quiet, unassuming citizen, a good man, a devoted husband and a kind father. To Mr. and Mrs. Giles nine children were born, three of whom have preceded the father to the grave. The living ones are: C. E. Giles, Hon. E. F. Giles, Frank B. Giles and Miss Gertrude Giles, of this city; Lettie J., wife of Charles Bell, of this city, and J. M. Giles, of Albuquerque, N.M. Owing to the absence of his son, the Hon. Ellsworth F. Giles, who is in Syracuse attending the sessions of the League of American Municipalities, the time of the funeral has not yet been decided upon.
