[sic] At 2.45 o'clock yesterday morning Elder Ross Gilliford, an aged and respected resident of the Fourth ward, died at his home, 1331 Sixth avenue, of pneumonia. He had been ailing for one week during which time he bore his sufferings with Christian fortitude, and passed into the next world with the hope of a happy hereafter. Deceased was a son of James and Mary Gilliford, early residents of Juniata county, and was born near Port Royal, June 29, 1834. He received a common school education and in early manhood learned the carpenter trade. On December 24, 1857, he was married to Miss Ada Burchfield. The union was a most happy one, and to them were born the following children, who, with his wife, survive: Fannie G., Emma S., Stiles E. and Horace L, all at home; Mary, wife of William Reynolds; W. Ross, Cora M., wife of Clarence Miller, all of Altoona. Mr. Gilliford with his family came to Altoona eleven years ago and followed his chosen occupation. He was unassuming, upright and honest, and made a host of friends who will learn of his death with sincere regret. He was a member of the Second Presbyterian church and Altoona conclave No. 132, Improved Order of Heptasophs. The funeral will take place Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, funeral services to be conducted at his late home by Rev. Henry Howard Stiles; interment in Oak Ridge cemetery.
