All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ Retired Shop Foreman Dies Unexpectedly William Dunsmore Gilmour, aged 85, of 3036 West Chestnut avenue, retired foreman of the miscellaneous shop in the Altoona works, died unexpectedly at 6.30 o'clock this morning at his home. He had not previously been ill, working about the home yesterday as usual. He was born in Morris Run, Tioga county, on March 5, 1863, a son of William and Jean (Dunsmore) Gilmour, and came to Altoona as a young man from Jersey Shore. He married Miss Dora Shardon of Altoona. Mr. Gilmour entered the service of the Pennsylvania railroad on May 23, 1892, as a machinist. On Dec. 1, 1902, he was promoted to assistant foreman of enginehouse 3, and on July 1, 1909, was transferred in the same capacity to the miscellaneous shop. On Nov. 1, 1924, he became foreman of the shop, continuing in that capacity (Continued on Page 32, Column 4) until his retirement on May 31, 1932. Surviving are his wife, one son and one daughter, William R. of Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Dorothy Querry of Martinsburg, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias and of the Eagles. Mr. Gilmour will repose after 7 o'clock this evening at the V. L. Stevens funeral home.
