Mr. James Glasgow, another of our oldest citizens, died at this home in Gaysport, on Saturday at 4.30 o'clock p.m. He had been in bad health since the 9th of June last, but was able to go about and attend partially to business. He was taken with a severe illness, which terminated his life, about a week ago. Those who were near him say that since he met with an accident, about two years ago, in which he was badly injured internally, by being squeezed between his locomotive and the coal shed, he has never been entirely well. Deceased was in early life a carpenter, and when he arrived here, in 1851, worked at his trade in the machine and repair shops of the old Portage railroad. He also worked for some years in the Altoona shops, but the greater portion of his life has been as a locomotive engineer. He had been in the service of the Pennsylvania railroad company about thirty-six years. Mr. Glasgow was highly esteemed as a citizen and neighbor and had many friends. He early connected himself with the Masonic fraternity and was a member of Portage lodge No. 220, of this place. Mr. Glasgow was born in Decatur township, Mifflin county, this state, on the 12th day of February, 1824, where he continued to reside until he came to Hollidaysburg, almost forty years ago. He was united in marriage at Lewistown with Miss Eliza Brought, of that place, by the Rev. James Wood, of the Presbyterian church. The fruits of this union were two children, one daughter, Mrs. Jane Lowe, whose home was with her father, and Mr. Edward Glasgow, now a resident of South Cambria. He was deprived of the companionship of his wife more than fourteen years ago, her death having occurred on the 1st of May, 1876. The funeral will take place from his late residence, on Bedford street, Gaysport, tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. E. T. Swartz, of the Methodist Episcopal church. Interment in the Presbyterian cemetery. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Monday, December 29, 1890 HOLLIDAYSBURG HAPPENINGS. All that was mortal of the late James Glasgow was consigned to the tomb yesterday afternoon. A large number of friends and neighbors assembled to pay the last tribute of respect to his memory. The funeral exercises were conducted by the Rev. J. W. Swartz, of the Methodist Episcopal church. His address was beautiful and interesting and deeply impressed all who heard it. The deceased who was a member of the Masonic fraternity, in good standing, received Masonic honors. Portage lodge No. 200, of which Mr. Glasgow was for many years a worthy and respected member, attended the funeral in a body. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Wednesday, December 31, 1890
