He was stricken with apoplexy about 10 o'clock Saturday night, shortly after retiring, and never regained consciousness. He had been in his usual health up until the time of his taking ill. His sudden death was a great shock to his family and friends. Jonathan Glunt was the son of Abraham and Elizabeth Glunt and was born in Allegheny township, Blair county, on July 6, 1829, and was consequently aged 69 years, 1 month and 1 day. He was reared on a farm in the township of his birth and his education was obtained in the common schools of that day and neighborhood. It was soon after leaving school that he engaged in the lumber and saw mill business in Cambria county, and this he continued at for many years, although recently he was not so actively employed. It was in 1859 that he came to Altoona. In 1883 he formed a partnership with Louis Plack and A. J. Crum and the planing mill at Eighth street and Ninth avenue was built. This mill run for many years, but is now abandoned. Mr. Glunt was also extensively interested in coal and timber lands in Somerset, Cambria and Bedford counties, and in addition owned valuable property in Logan township, adjoining this city, and where he built a comfortable home for himself and family. Mr. Glunt was married on December 14, 1858 to Rachel Miller, a daughter of Peter Miller, of Logan township. She survives him. To this union were born eight children, three sons and five daughters, as follows: Alice V., wife of S. W. Newcomb, of Logan township; Bertha M., wife of B. W. Cornmesser, of Bellwood; Edith, wife of Benjamin Foust, of Lgan township; Minda, wife of Harry Saylor, of the same township; Miss Carrie, at home; Wilson P. and William R. Glunt, of Altoona, and Frank B. Glunt, of Allegheny. He is also survived by seven brothers: John, Henry, W. C., J. B., G. A., of Altoona, and Joseph and Levi, of Logan township. Mr. Glunt was a member of the First Presbyterian church and of Altoona lodge No. 472, Independent Order Odd Fellows. He was in political faith a republican. As a business man he had met with much success in his life; as a citizen he was respected by all; as a husband and father he was kind and loving. The funeral will take place Tuesday afternoon at half-past 3 o'clock, the services being held at the house, 1620 Twenty-first avenue. The interment will be made in Fairview.
