Goss Crushed Under Cars at Fourth Street. Harry A. Goss, a brakeman in the Altoona yard, was instantly killed yesterday morning while in the discharge of his duty. Goss was jolted from the car on which he was riding by the sudden application of the air brakes and was rolled along the track for a considerable distance. His chest was crushed and he was dead when discovered. The accident occurred shortly before 6 o'clock, near Fourth street, just as he was returning from his work. Goss, who was 21 years old, came to the city some time ago and boarded with Mrs. Mansfield, at 1309 Fifteenth street. He was born at Wigton, Clearfield county, and his mother, Mrs. A. Goss, and one sister, living at Osceola, survive. The relatives were notified of the death, but nothing had been heard from them late last night, and it is not known yet what disposition will be made of the remains. Coroner McCartney is investigating the case, but it is not likely that an inquest will be held. Altoona Times, Monday, July 20, 1903
