Morning Tribune, Monday, January 12, 1880 FUNERAL RITES The Body of Miss Carolina C. Graf Consigned to the Grave. Yesterday afternoon the many friends of Miss Carolina C. Graf, the daughter of Lewis Graf, gathered around her dead body to pay the last sad rites of respect to her memory. Miss Graf had been living with an aunt, Mrs. Jacob Schwab, in Philadelphia, for about two years. On New Year's eve she spent a very pleasant time with her friends at a social gathering, but in less than two weeks later the cold hand of death was laid upon her and the spirit fled from its beautiful temple. On Sunday night funeral services were held in Philadelphia, and hundreds of friends, who admired the character of the deceased, were present. Great quantities of white flowers, typical of her pure life, were brought in by her young friends. The body was brought to Altoona, and, yesterday afternoon until 2 o'clock laid at the residence of Mr. Graf, in Logantown. She was but eighteen years old when grim death stepped in and cut short a bright and happy life, the sunshine of her home. The funeral services were held in the German Lutheran Church, and the building was filled with weeping friends. A very affecting sermon was delivered in English by Rev. Mr. Baker, and other services in German by the pastor, Rev. Mr. Jaekel. The body was then removed to the cemetery, and in a few minutes consigned to mother earth, there to remain until the last great day. The family has lost a loving daughter and a kind sister. Peace be with them. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Wednesday, January 14, 1880
