GRASSI, Retired employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad and residing at 620 Third avenue, died at his home at 10:21 o'clock last night after an illness of two weeks. Mr. Grassi was born in Riccia, Italy, on Sept. 21, 1878, a son of Matteo and Incornata Grassi, and he came to the United States in 1901, residing in Altoona ever since. He was employed for thirty- six years as a stonemason on the Pennsy's Middle division and he retired on Nov. 26, 1940. He was active in the work of the Christopher Colombus society and served as corresponding secretary for the society for over twenty years. In his church affiliations he was a member of the Mount Carmel Catholic church. Surviving are his wife, Carmello Mingnogna Grassi, and five daughters and two sons, Mrs. Charles Cima of Pitcairn, Lena, Esther, Mary, Etta and Oliver at home and Private Herman Grassi of Atlantic City. Six grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. John DeVincinzis and Mrs. Frank Ventresca, both of Altoona, also survive. Friends will be received at the home after 7 o'clock this evening.
