Mangled By Freight Cars Near the Red Bride Last Evening. J. Blair Green, a young man who had a wide acquaintance in the city, was run over by freight cars near the Red Bridge about 7:30 o'clock last evening and died in the city hospital at 11:05 o'clock last night. In company with George Hart, Jerry Kelly, Charlie McGarvey and William Sands, Mr. Green had gone to Bellwood on mail east yesterday afternoon for the purpose of fishing. In the evening, not wishing to wait for fast line, they boarded a freight train to ride to the city. The entire party were on top of a box car until they arrived near the Red Bridge when they thought it would be best to get in the cabin car which is usually brought up as far as Seventh street, while the remainder of the train comes no further than Juniata. Kelly and Green started back over the tops of the cars, while the others jumped off intending to swing on to the cabin as it passed. Kelly had not gone far till he missed his companion and about the same time the others saw him under the wheels. A number of cars passed over his left arm near the shoulder, his skull was fractured, there was a wound in the centre of his forehead and there were other wounds on the face and body. He was removed to the hospital as soon as possible and remained unconscious until death came. His relatives were notified and his wife, father, brothers and sisters were with him when he died. J. Blair Green was born a short distance east of the city thirty- seven years ago. He was a painter and grainer by trade, and one of the most expert workmen in the city. He resided with his wife and 11-year- old daughter, Laura, at 511 Twenty-third street. He was the son of Joseph Green, his mother being dead. He leaves, besides his widow and child, to mourn their loss, his father and three brothers and four sisters - M. Asbury, Millard F. and Howard M. Green; Clara, wife of James Woomer, Annie, wife of Wilson Rhodes, Mollie, wife of John DeArment, and Ellie, wife of Robert Patterson. The unfortunate young man was a good husband and father and was exceedingly popular among his acquaintances, having a pleasant and most agreeable disposition. His sad and untimely death will be the occasion of sincere sorrow to many. Funeral services will be held at the residence at 2:30 o'clock on Friday afternoon. Interment in Fairview cemetery.
