GREIST, Whose serious condition was noted in yesterday's paper, died at 2:30 yesterday afternoon at his home, 1223 Thirteenth street, after an illness of four months. Deceased, who was a well-known and popular citizen, was born at Gettysburg, May 13, 1846. When 16 years of age he came to this city with his parents and received employment with the Pennsylvania railroad company. In 1868 he was appointed locomotive engineer on the Pittsburg division and retained that position until 1869, when he went to Roanoke, Va., and afterwards to Ashville, Ky., where he secured a position as engineer on the Chesapeake and Ohio road, where he met with an accident resulting in the loss of a foot. He returned to Altoona in 1886 and opened a restaurant. In 1889 he gave up this business and never since had been engaged in any active employment. Mr. Greist was married December 28, 1865, to Miss Cornelia Runyon, who, with one son, Allan M. Greist of this city, and one daughter, Mrs. Joseph Marshall of Roanoke, Va., survive him. His aged father, Mr. Allen Greist, also survives him. Mr. Greist was a member of the First Methodist church. The funeral will take place at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Services will be conducted at the house by Rev. M. L. Ganoe; interment in Fairview cemetery.
