Groce, aged 22, died of injuries sustained in a fall from a truck in northern France May 17. Inducted into the army March 13, 1943, Pfc. Groce took training at Fort Sill, Okla., until May 1944, in the ordinance department, then was sent overseas, landing in England and staying there briefly before he went into the invasion areas of France. William O. Groce was born in Woodland, Clearfield county. He attended Altoona schools, and was married to Mrs. Marguerite (Holly) Groce in February, 1944. She survives with his mother and three sisters, Mrs. Clara Lowry, Mrs. Florence Kemp and Joan at home. The young man was employed at the Penn-Alto hotel before induction. He was a member of the Bethel A.M.E. church. Additional Comments: William O. Groce is buried in Arlington Cemetery.
