All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ BRIEF ILLNESS IS FATAL TO PETER GUTWALD Peter Gutwald, aged 87, of 2612 Broad avenue, executive vice president of the United Home Dressed Meat company, died at his home at 7.15 o'clock last evening after a brief illness. He was one of the founders of the company in 1914, of whom Frank X. Endress is now the sole survivor. Mr. Gutwald was also one of the founders of the First National bank of Gallitzin, serving as its vice president for many years, and while residing in Gallitzin had served as treasurer of the borough and president and treasurer of the school board. He was born in Carroll township, Cambria county, July 23, 1861, a son of Joseph and Lucy (Wilt) Gutwald. Mr. Gutwald was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church, the Holy Name society, an honorary life member of the American Legion, a director of the Rose Hill Cemetery association, and a charter member of the Johnstown council, Knights of Columbus, later transferring his membership to the Altoona council. Surviving are one son, J. Roy Gutwald of the city; eight grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Sanker of Johnstown and Mrs. Elizabeth Bertram at the home. His wife, Mrs. Clara (Bradley) Gutwald, died Feb. 11, 1931. Friends will be received at the home after 7 o'clock this evening.
