James L. Gwin, aged 57 years. The deceased was a resident of this county for his entire life. His parents came from Scotland. He was educated in the common schools and became a teacher, but gave up that profession and studied surveying, which he made his business. In 1852 he was elected to the State Legislature, and served two successive terms. After the expiration of his last term, he was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Associate Judge Geo. R. McFarlane, who had recently died. He was County Surveyor, of this county, for twenty years, with but one interval. He was an esteemed and respected citizen, and his death will be regretted by the entire community. His remains were interred in Fairview cemetery, at Altoona, on Saturday last.
