Death of Two Aged Gentlemen.

Jeremiah Haddock died at his residence on Ninth avenue, between Eighth
and Ninth streets, at 9:30 o'clock Thursday evening, from consumption
of the bowels.  He was aged 67 years.  He was born in New Brunswick,
New Jersey, April 2, 1817.  His parents both died when he was quite
young, leaving him to battle unaided with the world.  At the age of 19
he enlisted in the army, participating in the Florida war.  On his
return he took up his abode in Bedford county, where, in 1846, he was
united in marriage with Miss Eve Ann Arthur, daughter of the late
George W. Arthur, sr., of this city.  He came to Altoona in 1850 and
resided here continuously ever since.  He was a carpenter by trade, a
good workman, having worked for many years under George Rosenberg.
After the Pennsylvania car shops were built he was transferred to the
freight department where he was employed up to the time of his last
sickness.  He united with the First Evangelical Lutheran church, of
this city, in 1869, and was a constant member thereof.  His death was
peaceful in the full belief that he would be received into the many-
mansioned house eternal in the heavens.
