Hagan, a veteran of the Civil war, died Tuesday night at his home, 614 First avenue, of senility, at 9:30 o'clock. He was born in Ireland on May 11, 1828, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hagan, and came to this country when at the age of 4 years. In 1870 he married Miss Elizabeth E. Harford, of Birmingham, England. Mr. Hagan, in addition to serving in the Civil war, spent twelve years in the U.S. navy and sailed on the Great Lakes for a number of years. He was a rigger by trade and received his honorable discharge on account of an accident in connection with his work, when he was struck by the ship's spar. Following his discharge from the navy, he plied the trade of expert rope splicer, retiring twelve years ago. He is survived by his wife, aged 75, besides the following children: John, at home; Mrs. Katharine Tomlinson, Bernard J., and Miss Margaret, of this city; Mrs. N. Nelson, of Cleveland, O., and Mrs. John Barret, of Philadelphia. Two sisters also survive, Miss Anna Hagan and Mrs. Bridget McCullough, of Chest Springs, Cambria county, besides twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic church. The remains may be viewed at the Stevens mortuary, because of illness at the home. Friends can view the remains in rest room No. 3. The funeral will take place tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock with requiem mass at St. Mark's church. Interment will be made in Calvary cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Thursday, February 20, 1919, page 10
