At about twenty minutes of 3 o'clock on Monday morning Mr. Charles Haid died at his residence, No. 1419 Fourth avenue. The deceased had been complaining for some weeks past of a pain in the region of his heart. On Sunday, however, he was out with his friends and appeared in good spirits and better than usual. That night he retired to bed apparently well, but about the time mentioned his wife awakened by hearing him moan. She arose and went into the room in which her husband had been sleeping for a week or more past and endeavored to arouse him, but without avail, and in a few minutes his breathing stopped and death claimed him. Owing to the suddenness of Mr. Haid's death it was deemed advisable that the coroner should hold an inquest, and he was notified. On his arrival the following were impanneled as a jury: Philip Kimmell, J. J. Bell, M. M. Kimmell, Leopold Ingold, Francis Rooney, and Reinhold Schimminger. After viewing the body and hearing testimony a verdict that death was the result of heart disease was rendered. Mr. Haid was born in Imnau, Germany, and was aged 37 years, 1 month and 7 days. He was a brewer by trade and came to this country about seventeen years ago. Four years were spent in Pittsburgh and at the expiration of that time he came to Altoona, where he built the Union brewery which he owned at the time of his death. On September 2, 1873, he married Miss Mary Fisher, daughter of Michael Fisher, of this city. His wife and a son and a daughter survive him. He also leaves a sister, who resides in Michigan, and three brothers who are in Germany. He was a member of Frohsinn and Concordia singing societies and the Turners' association.
