Hair, one of Roaring Spring's leading citizens and retired business men, died Monday morning at 7:30 o'clock at his home from an affection of the heart and other complications. He had been ill more than a year. Mr. Hair was the son of Samuel R. and Margaret (Smith) Hair and was born in Bedford county, April 28, 1850. In 1870 he went to Bakers Summit, where he was manager of the C.R. Stover store for four years, after which he moved to Roaring Spring, going into the general merchandising and drug business. This business he sold to Dr. W.M. Eldon in 1910, since which time he lived a retired life. Mr. Hair was always prominent in civic affairs. He helped organize the borough of Roaring Spring, and was borough treasurer until two years ago. He was also postmaster of the borough for four years. He has been a director in the Roaring Spring bank ever since it was organized. He was also a member of the Lutheran church, the I.O.O.F., and Hollidaysburg lodge, F. & A.M., and the Commandery and Shrine in Altoona. He was united in marriage in 1876 with Elizabeth Pote of Bakers Summit, who died twenty-one years ago. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Hair Garver, and one grand-daughter, Leanore Garver, with whom the father and grandfather resided on Main street. These brothers and sisters also survive: Horace G. Hair, Clarence Hair, Mrs. Amelda Mock and Misses Alice and Mary Hair, all of Roaring Spring. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in St. Luke's Lutheran church in charge of the pastor, Rev. Clarence E. Naugle. Interment was made in Greenlawn cemetery, with Masonic honors. Morrisons Cove Herald, Morrisons Cove, Pa., Friday, March 7, 1930
