Haley, of the Logan House, Altoona, Dropped Dead on the Street in St. Louis, Presumably from Heart Disease - He Left Here on Sunday Night Last in His Usual Health. A telegram was yesterday received in this city which announced the sudden death in St. Louis of Mr. Thomas R. Haley, cashier of the Logan house, Altoona. The telegram stated that Mr. Haley had dropped dead on the street and, while the cause is not stated, it is supposed to have been heart disease. The news was a great shock to the many friends of the gentleman in this city. He left here on Cincinnati and St. Louis express on Sunday night, with the intention of visiting Joplan, Mo., where he had an interest in some zinc and copper mines. He was then in his usual health and the news of his sudden demise was all the greater shock to his friends. For the past eighteen years Mr. Haley had been an attache of the Logan house in this city, and had thus formed a large acquaintanceship. He was quiet in his manger, with a pleasant word for everyone, and his familiar form will be sadly missed by the patrons of this famous hostelry. While he was undemonstrative, the friendships which he formed were lasting, and naught but words of sorrow were heard when his death was announced yesterday. Mr. Haley was about 58 years of age, and a bachelor. He was born at what is now known as Ardmore, a station on the Pennsylvania railroad near Philadelphia. He has several brothers, one of whom is a cashier in the hotel restaurant connected with the Broad street station at Philadelphia. This brother was telegraphed to, and on one of the early trains this morning, passed through Altoona on his way to St. Louis, where he will take charge of the remains and bring them east for interment at the old home of the deceased in Ardmore. Morning Tribune, Wednesday, October 15, 1890 Will be Buried on Monday. The body of the late Thomas R. Haley, was taken to Philadelphia on eastern express last night. The relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, from the residence of his brother, Lewis J. Haley, Merion Square, Montgomery county, on Monday afternoon, the 20th inst., at 2 o'clock. Interment at Lower Merion Baptist church. Carriages at Ardmore for 12.45 train from Broad street, Philadelphia. The readers of the Tribune will remember that Mr. Haley was employed at the Logan house, this city, as cashier, and that on Monday of the present week, while in St. Louis, he dropped dead on the street while out walking.
