Miss Halpin was a daughter of Bernard and Mary Halpin and was born in County Cavan, Ireland about sixty years ago. She came to this country when 14 years of age, and with the exception of four years spent in Kittanning, Armstrong county, the remainder of her life was passed in Hollidaysburg. She lived out at service and being exceedingly economical had saved considerable money, which is principally invested in property in this city and Hollidaysburg. Lately she had been living alone in Gaysport. The fact that she was known to be a person of means excited the cupidity of local thieves and one night about three weeks ago an attempt was made to break into her house. The shock occasioned by the fright completely prostrated her and this was the immediate cause of her death. A sister, Mrs. Marcella McLaughlin, lives in Ireland. Miss Mary McLaughlin of Pittsburg, a niece, and Bernard McLaughlin of Newark, N.J., are the only surviving relatives in America. Miss Halpin was a devout member of St. Mary's Catholic church of Hollidaysburg where a requiem mass will be read over her remains tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock; interment in St. Mary's cemetery.
