Hamel, 86, 24 Harrison Ave., Panama City, Fla., formerly of Hollidaysburg, died early Sunday morning, June 7, 1998, at her residence, following a brief illness. She was born July 31, 1911, in Hollidaysburg, the daughter of William and Ada (Snare) Thompson. She married Kenneth L. Hamel June 21, 1936. He died March 3, 1975. Mrs. Hamel was a member of First Methodist Church, Panama City, and a former member of First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg. She retired as an elementary school teacher from the Hollidaysburg Area School District. Mrs. Hamel was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and Bucknell University. She enjoyed reading and was teaching adult reading and helping adults learn English in Panama City. Surviving are two sons: Kenneth B. of Panama City and John H. of Hollidaysburg; a daughter Tanya Cope of Panama City; a brother, Brady of Hollidaysburg; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Hamel of Panama City, Fla., formerly of Hollidaysburg, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, 801 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg, by the Rev. William Barr. Interment at Presbyterian Cemetery, Hollidaysburg. Arrangements by Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg. Preceded in death by a brother, Harry "Bub" Thompson.
