Hanley, well known Roaring Spring resident for the past half century, died at the Nason hospital at 12.10 o'clock yesterday noon of complications following an illness of fourteen weeks. He was admitted to the Nason hospital four weeks ago. Mr. Hanley was a son of David and Elizabeth Hanley and was born at East Sharpsburg, in April, 1858, where he spent his boyhood days, and later came to Roaring Spring where he was employed by the D. M. Bare Paper company and which he faithfully served during the past fifty-one years, he being the oldest employe of the paper plant. He was a member of the Volunteer Friendship fire company and for eleven years was a member of the national guard located in Altoona. He was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Hite of Roaring Spring and to this union five children were born, four of whom are living: Mrs. Jennie Mauk, wife of Arthur Mauk, and Sherman Hanley of Roaring Spring, Harrison Hanley and Maud Hanley in Akron, O. Mrs. Hanley died on Sept. 10, 1919. He was again united in marriage to Mrs. Alice B. Wertman of Roaring Spring nine years ago, who also survives with two step-sons, Herbert Wertman and Harry Wertman. One brother, David Hanley of Duncansville, and one granddaughter, Mrs. Cleona Mauk Stockslager, also survive. Mr. Hanley was a member of the Trinity Methodist church and also a member of Rev. Womer's Bible class of the Sunday school. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with brief services at the home on East Main street, after which services will be conducted in the Trinity Methodist church in charge of his pastor, Rev. George S. Womer, D.D., assisted by Rev. Clarence E. Naugle, pastor of St. Luke's Lutheran church, and Rev. Cyrus A. Byler, pastor of the Bare Memorial Church of God.
