It appears that he had gone from the Furnace to Altoona, and on his return sat down on the end of a cross tie, beside the track, at Baker's siding, and overcome by fatigue and loss of rest for several nights previous, fell asleep. The Branch Train coming along shortly, he was struck by the cow-catcher of the engine and injured as stated. The train was immediately stopped and he was taken up and carried back to Altoona and a physician called, but too late - he was past the reach of human aid and died in a few minutes. He was about 57 years of age and leaves a wife, but no children. No blame can be attached to those having charge of the train, as it was dark when the accident occurred and impossible for the engineer to see the unfortunate man.
