He was born June 24, 1918, at Tyrone, a son of Chester A. and Mary D. Cowher Harpster. On April 13, 1956, at the Church of the Brethren, he was married to Amber Stroup. Surviving are the widow, three brothers and a sister, Charles R. of Ebensburg; Mrs. Wilbur (Sarah) Morrisey, of Tyrone RD 3; Kenneth J. and Melvin E.; both of Tyrone. A brother preceded him in death. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren, an army veteran of World War 2, and was employed by the Penn Central Transportation Co., retiring on disability in October of 1973, after 31 years of service, at the Rea Shops, Hollidaysburg. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m., at the Johnson Funeral Home, in charge of the Reverend Ralph Ebersole. Burial will be in Presbyterian Cemetery, Port Matilda. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Tyrone Daily Herald, Tyrone, Pa., January 5, 1976
