John Hay, of Logan township, about seventy years of age, residing at Gardner's Mills, died some days since. The old gentleman was sitting at the supper table, and fell off his chair, knocking over the stove. A vessel of hot water was standing upon the stove, and it was thrown over him, scalding him severely. His wife was not in the room at the time, and when she presently came in the old gentleman had risen from the floor. Mr. Hay was a very feeble man, and a strange incident of the affair was the fact that when he rose he went to the place where his hat hung upon the wall and got it down and put it upon his head. He had not been able to do this for some time. After Mrs. Hay had fixed the stove in its place and with the assistance of a neighbor gathered up the scattered coals, her husband informed her that he had been badly scalded. She examined the burns and a physician was sent for, and the scalding was found to be of a serious nature. Mr. Hay lived about a week afterward. He was interred at Asbury Church burying ground.
