All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ JOHN HAYS, One of the oldest residents of Hollidaysburg, died of chronic bronchitis at his home on Pine street, at 4:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon. He had been ill for two years. The deceased was born in the parish of Rockhill, County Limerick, Ireland, in 1831. When 18 years old he came to this country and settled in Hollidaysburg. He was employed on the Old Portage railroad during the palmy days of that pioneer line. His last employment was with the coal firm of Denniston, Porter & Cox. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and the following children: Mrs. Robert Gildea, Mrs. George Loudon, Miss Blanche, John and James, all of Hollidaysburg, and Maggie and Mary, members of the Order of Sisters of St. Joseph of Ebensburg. One sister, Mrs. Thomas O'Connor, of Hollidaysburg, and one brother, William Hays, of St. Louis, Mo., also survive. Mr. Hays was a Greenbacker and took a deep interest in national politics. He was a member of the Catholic church. A high mass will be solemnized over the remains in St. Michael's Catholic church on Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock; interment in St. Mary's cemetery.
