Lewis Hess [sic] Died at Hospital This Morning of Lockjaw. Louis Heess, 8-year-old son of Mrs. Matilda Heess, 1618 Third avenue, died at the hospital at ten minutes of 2 this morning, of tetanus. Some time ago the lad, while at play, ran a splinter in his hand. The wound was given the proper treatment and apparently healed. Saturday morning symptoms of lockjaw developed and the child was removed to the hospital, where everything known to medical science was done to save his life, but nothing could be done and he died at the time stated. The funeral will take place from the mother's home at a time not yet determined upon. Altoona Times, Tuesday, July 28, 1903 FUNERAL NOTICE. The funeral of Louis, the 8-year-old son of John and Matilda Heess, will take place this afternoon, services to be held at 4.30 at the home of the parents, 1618 Third avenue.
