Helsel, 91, of Albright's Nursing Home, formerly of 113 5th Ave., Juniata, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 1980, in Altoona Hospital. Mr. Helsel retired as a crane director from the Pennsylvania Railroad in June 1952, after 35 years' service. He was born Aug. 6, 1889, in Roaring Spring, the son of Samuel and Barbara (Feather) Helsel, and Feb. 9, 1915, in Cumberland, Md., married Gertrude Smith. Surviving are his wife, two children, Donald of Buffalo, N.Y., and Mrs. Shirley Long of Altoona, 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and a brother and three sisters, Ira of Camp Hill, Lydia of Morrisons Cove Home, Martinsburg, and Mrs. Anna Walter and Mrs. Gertrude Detterline of East Freedom RD. A grandson, Jake Helsel, was raised in the home. Mr. Helsel was a member of Roaring Spring Mennonite Church. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Juniata. Altoona Mirror, September 29, 1980
