BARBARA ALICE (FEATHERS) HELSEL Wife of Samuel Helsel, died at her home in Freedom township, southwest of East Freedom, Tuesday morning at 9.10 o'clock, death following an illness of several months. She was a daughter of Henry and Catherine (Claar) Feathers and was born in Freedom township on April 23, 1865, and was united in marriage with Mr. Helsel on Sept. 20, 1885. To this union ten children were born, two sons having died early in life. Surviving are the husband and four sons, and four daughters, Oliver H. Helsel of East Freedom, Adam L. Helsel of Altoona, Homer G. Helsel of McKee and Ira L. Helsel of Roaring Spring, Mrs. Mary C. Miller of Claysburg, Mrs. Annie E. Dick of Roaring Spring, R.D., Mrs. Gertrude M. Detterline of East Freedom, R.D., and Miss Lydia M. Helsel, at home. Also surviving are two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Mary E. Neterer of Goshen, Ind., Mrs. Sarah McGraw of Wilkinsburg and Adam M. Feathers of Freedom township, and these half-brothers and half-sisters, Mrs. Nancy Dick, Charles Feathers, Benjamin Feathers and Andrew Feathers, all of Roaring Spring, and John M. Feathers of East Freedom. Mrs. Helsel was a member of the Leamersville Church of the Brethren for more than forty years and attended services regularly and took an active part in the work of the church societies when health permitted. HELSEL - Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Alice Feathers Helsel will be conducted in the Albright Church of the Brethren Thursday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock in charge of Rev. C. E. Cox of Claysburg, assisted by Rev. Clair Gartland and Rev. G. Q. Showalter of Leamersville. Interment will be made in the Albright church cemetery. Friends are being received at the home in Freedom township. Altoona Mirror, April 19, 1939
