All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ City Business Man Found Dead Of Heart Attack Frederick Ray Helsel, 59, of 604 South Twenty-second street, well- known business man and former salesman in the area, died unexpectedly of a heart attack last night, being found dead on arrival at Mercy hospital dispensary at 11.30 o'clock. He had suffered from a heart ailment. Mr. Helsel collapsed in his automobile on Fifty-sixth street, near Sixth avenue, his automobile being first seen parked there about 9 o'clock. Investigation by residents of the neighborhood disclosed his condition some time later and an ambulance was called to remove him to the hospital. For the past six years Mr. Helsel had operated the Altoona Casket & Burial Case Manufacturing company and the Helsel aluminum company at 1312 Pleasant Valley boulevard and from 1932 to 1948 had served as a salesman for the Altoona Packing company and J. H. Filbert corporation. From 1918 to 1932 Mr. Helsel had conducted his own meat and grocery business in Huntingdon. He was born at Hopewell July 16, 1895, a son of Edward and Fanny (Fluke) Helsel, and was united in marriage with Miss Sara Leighty at Towson, Md., July 27, 1916. Surviving are his wife, two sons and two daughters, Donald and Vivian of Arlington, Va., Dean of this city and Mrs. Jane Richards of Corpus Christi, Tex., and nine grandchildren. A brother, Paulard, died last year. Mr. Helsel was a member of Jaggard Memorial Methodist church of Mountain lodge, F. and A.M., Williamsport consistory and of the United Commercial Travelers, of which he was senior counselor of Altoona council.
