He retired as a crane operator from the Pennsylvania Railroad Samuel Rea Shop in 1960 after 43 years' service. He was also a barber in East Freedom and Roaring Spring for 55 years. Friends are being received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Thompson Funeral Home, Roaring Spring, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, by the Rev. David Lykens. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Roaring Spring. He was born Dec. 10, 1894, at East Freedom RD, the son of Samuel and Barbara (Feather) Helsel, and June 15, 1916, at East Freedom, married E. Blanche Thomas. He was a member of the Foot of Ten Independent Bible Church. Surviving are his wife, four children, Gordon C. of Naples, Fla., Mrs. Sara Piho of East Berlin, Adams County, Herbert L. of Harrisburg, and Mrs. Bernice Shambaugh of Roaring Spring, 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters Lydia Helsel of the Morrisons Cove Home, Mrs. Anna Walter of Roaring Spring, and Mrs. Gertrude Detterline of East Freedom RD.
