All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ JOHN ELMER HELSEL Well known resident of Roaring Spring, R.D., died at the Blair county hospital on Tuesday evening, Oct. 15, at 8.30 o'clock, following an illness of more than one year. Mr. Helsel was born in Freedom township on Dec. 29, 1857, a son of David and Levina (Fickes) Helsel, and spent the greater portion of his life in Taylor township, where he was engaged in farming for many years. He was united in marriage with Anna Shaffer many years ago. Two children were born to this union, both now deceased. He was the last of a family of five children. The remains were taken to the Grant Hite funeral parlors in Roaring Spring on Tuesday evening where they were prepared for burial and later removed to the home of Mrs. Isaac Helsel in Taylor township, from where funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon in the Albright Church of the Brethren, in charge of the pastor, Rev. Jacob Kinsel of Altoona. He was a member of the Lutheran church at Newry. Interment will be made in the cemetery adjoining the church. Altoona Mirror, October 17, 1935
