HELSEL Lifelong resident of Freedom township, where he followed farming until retiring, died yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock at his home. Mr. Helsel figured in an accident of Jan. 18, this year, when an automobile got out of control of the driver and dashed across the street, striking Mr. Helsel as he was standing at the steps of the Rhodes general store in East Freedom. One leg was so badly injured that amputation was necessary between the knee and ankle. His health had been declining since. He was born in Freedom township on Feb. 17, 1863, and in 1886 in Newry he was united in marriage with Annie B. Clark, who survives, with the following children: Mrs. Thaddeus Feather of Claysburg, Thornton Helsel of East Freedom, William, Elmer and James Helsel, all at home; one sister, Mrs. Annie Butler of East Freedom, and seven grandchildren. Friends are being received at the home of the son, Thornton Helsel, in East Freedom. Helsel of East Freedom will be conducted by Rev. Ralph W. Birk, assisted by Rev. C. L. Cox and Rev. John Raugh. Services will be held at the East Freedom Lutheran church on Saturday at 2 p.m. Interment following in Martinsburg cemetery. Friends are being received at the home of Thornton Helsel in East Freedom.
