All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ Benjamin Rose Henderson, An old and respected citizen, died at his residence, 2208 Sixth avenue, Saturday evening at 7 o'clock after a long illness. He was born in Carlisle, Pa., November 2, 1820, and engaged in butchering in Hollidaysburg when a young man. He was afterwards engaged in the same business in this city in partnership with Andrew Biddle. He removed from here to Bedford county, where he operated a planing mill and engaged in farming. In 1879 he was elected associate judge of the Bedford county courts on the Democratic ticket and served creditably for five years. In 1880 he returned to this city, which had since been his home. He united with the Presbyterian church in Hollidaysburg over forty-five years ago. While here he was a member of the Second Presbyterian church until the Broad street church was organized, when he transferred his membership to that church. He was first married to Amelia, a daughter of John Ake, of Bedford county. Two sons, the fruits of this marriage, survive him - David, of Osterburg, and John, of New Enterprise, Bedford county. He also leaves to mourn, his second wife, Julia A. Henderson, two children by her having died in infancy. Five sisters - Mrs. Jas. Smith, of Elderton; Mrs. John Yokey, of George's Station, Westmoreland county; Mrs. J. S. Smith, of Elkin, Indiana county; Mrs. Robert Kathcart, of Sharon, Mercer county; Mrs. Samuel Elgin and also his aged step- mother, 96 years old, of Elderton, Armstrong county, also survive him. The deceased was an exemplary Christian and leaves behind him the record of a well spent life. Services will be conducted at the residence this evening at 7:30 o'clock. The remains will be taken to McKee's Gap on the 8:10 train tomorrow morning and from there to St. Clairsville, where the interment will be made. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., Monday, January 2, 1893
