Williamsburg, Feb. 13. - The people of Williamsburg were considerably shocked by the death of Station agent George Elmer Henderson, one of the town's best citizens, after an operation at the Clearfield hospital, at 8 o'clock Thursday morning. He had been in poor health for the last couple of years although he attended to his duties. About six weeks ago he consulted a specialist who advised an immediate operation of the throat which he underwent successfully, returning home for a period to recuperate, after which he submitted to two minor operations. On Monday he left home for the final operation in good spirits, which he underwent on Tuesday. He sank rapidly and died at the above named hour. Mrs. Henderson arrived on Wednesday and was with him until the last. George Elmer Henderson was the son of Thomas, deceased, and Elizabeth Henderson, born at Huntingdon, June 21, 1861, and has been a resident of Williamsburg since 1906, when he assumed the management of the Williamsburg station of the Pennsylvania railroad company, previously filling a similar position at Union Furnace and Petersburg. He was a broad minded man, of good judgment and always active in the affairs of the community. He served as secretary of Blair Council for a number of years and was a member of Tyrone Lodge Free and Accepted Masons, First Lodge, I.O.O.F. of Alexandria, Williamsburg club and the Presbyterian church. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons Thomas J. of New Mexico and Paul, at home. His aged mother and the following brothers and sisters also survive: Mrs. John Mattern of Washington, D.C., Miss Nora and Clarence B., of Warriorsmark; and Mrs. Van Barrick, of Juniata. Funeral announcement will be made later. Altoona Tribune, Friday, February 14, 1919, page 10
